About us

Founded in 2015, we’re a mixed ability adult choir who meet on Wednesdays for the enjoyment of making music together. Rehearsals are informal and friendly with plenty of support given to new singers and those coming back to singing. We sing everything from folk songs, through to Take That, and John Rutter, with a bit of jazz, Motown, and classical thrown in for good measure. Our music is carefully chosen to ensure arrangements match the voices in the choir and are accessible. Music and words are provided, though you don’t need to be able to read music notation. We like to challenge ourselves to sing in two, three and even four part harmony! Piano accompaniment supports the early stages of rehearsals and, as we grow in confidence, we often sing a cappella.

We host at least one concert per year at our home venue, the Queen Elizabeth Park Centre. We also enjoy taking our music into the community, sometimes singing alongside other musicians and choirs. Recent performance venues have included GLive, Guildford Institute and Dakota Venue, Godalming.

Nathan has recently relocated to Guildford and we’re delighted to be working with him. He brings over twenty years of choral leadership experience and has worked with community and professional choirs across the UK. He’s also an arranger and prolific composer with works performed at prestigious venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, London. He’s currently working on piece called “On Windover Hill”, which will be premiered by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Harlequin Chamber Choir.

Newcomers to our choir are assured of a warm welcome and will hopefully find the buzz of music-making infectious. You should feel free to come anytime, as new singers are also welcome. The first session is always free. Membership thereafter is £7 per session, when paid in advance for a half-term, or £8 per session on a pay-and-go basis. We are a non-profit community group and our fees pay for our room hire and choir leader.
Whilst we’re rooted in the Stoughton community, membership is open to residents from across Guildford and beyond! So do tell your friends or colleagues. Follow us on social media for regular updates and to help spread the word. If you have questions, feel free to email Stoughton.Hearts.Voices@gmail.com.
